Where have I been???

Almost 2 years since I've blogged...guess I've been "blogged down" by life. ***pardon the pun*** Where have I been, why haven't I written, what have I been doing since March 2013 (last blog)? I'll tell you what I've been doing.  I've been busy living life, making life happen, and also letting life happen to me, which I hate to admit.

Living the "Island Life" in the land down under--No, NOT AUSTRALIA! Nothing that glamorous, but Guam (Pacific islands)! A place I've lovingly nicknamed, "ghetto paradise". It's all a matter of perspective anyway, right? -it's all in how you see things, glass half empty or half full type of situation. You understand, right? Sort of like throwing on a pair of Chanel rose colored glasses and hoping a Chris Rock type of dude can morphe into Drake! Kind of like that....;)

But seriously, I've been busy, much like you all, trying to figure things out. Everything from family, career, finances and future----oh, and EVERYTHING in between: hair, fashion, beauty, culture---oh, and YOUTUBE! Did I mention I'm a newly natural (1 year naturalversary this month). That's a whole other subject to be blogged about later. For now, catching you up....

In all this "figuring out", I thought I'd start blogging (again)....as a therapy, an outlet, or a sanity check of sorts. Heck, it's either that or heavy drinking and I'm not really GOOD at that. Confession: wine does soothe the soul, but heavy drinking is never a good look, plus hangovers---"ain't NOBODY got time for THAT!" #justsaying

Until later, stay tuned!

Namaste, blessings, and fruitfulness,
Riva(diva--sometimes)

Just like PT.... ACV--"Good for you, good for me!"

AN APPLE A DAY KEEPS THE DOCTOR AWAY...or, should I say ACV?
                                        BENEFITS OF APPLE CIDER VINEGAR

As a result of being "called out" or "called to the carpet" for being delinquent on blogging by  1 1/4 years, I've been EXTRINSICALLY motivated to start again, health blogging that is.  With that said, in the words of Budweiser, "Edwin, this one's for you, Hun!"

Although I thought I'd posted a review on the benefits of ACV (apple cider vinegar) I can't locate it and have been inspired to repost because even though I may have touched in the skin regimine benefits of using it topically, I may have skipped the INTERNAL BENEFITS, especially when it comes to lowering BLOOD PRESSURE.

HOW TO USE:

1-Choose a raw apple cider vinegar that is cold-pressed, fermented, unpasteurized and made from organic apples. This will ensure it has the highest possible mineral content. Raw ACV is high in potassium, an electrolyte your body uses to conduct electricity through your body. According to the University of Maryland Medical Center, low levels of potassium are linked with high blood pressure, but only if you are slightly potassium deficient. Talk to your doctor before adding any potassium supplement to treat high blood pressure.

Combine two tablespoons. of ACV with eight ounces of filtered water and drink three times daily. If the taste of ACV is too strong, you may add fresh lemon juice. If you prefer a warm drink, you can add ACV to hot water to make a tea. You may add a natural sweetener, such as honey, agave or stevia -- but make note of the extra calories, and avoid adding honey or agave if you have diabetes.

3-Add raw apple cider vinegar to condiments such as salad dressing and mustard to get more ACV into your daily diet. Try to take ACV before each meal, so that it aids in digestion, as well as lowers blood pressure.

TUMMY TIME (cheap beauty tricks)

As some of you may know, oftentime I post "cheap beauty tricks or beauty on a budget" blogs recommending or making reviews about products I've researched or tried. So, here's my latest CHEAP BEAUTY TRICK recommending the use of a few of my favorite oils:

1. Coconut oil
2. Olive oil
3. Vitamin E oil

I'm 7 months pregnant and have been experiencing some SERIOUS itching sessions lately! (You all with kids know EXACTLY what I'm talking about.) I'd seen commercials advertising BIO OIL to relieve itchy skin and prevent or treat stretch marks and I was about to purchase this oil for appx $12 per 4oz bottle! (Expensive!) However, before I gave into the hype, I decided to research the above listed products which I'd been using on my hair for a few months to see if they'd also work on my skin to relieve this problem and keep my sanity. Guess what? THEY WORK ON SKIN ALSO!

You can mix these 3 items together to create your own lotion/oil which leaves your skin soft, suptle, and healed. Not sure if they'll actually "prevent" stretch marks or make them disappear but at this point, just NOT feeling like I'm going to tear a whole in my skin from scratching suits me just fine! Besides, that....it's cheap, it has multiple uses (skin and hair), and leave you with moisturized skin and hair-ALL NATURALLY!

I highly recommend you try Coconut Oil, as it has many beneficial uses AND you can even cook with it! Research it for yourself and tell me what you think.

Happy, healthy living....God bless!

Castor Oil? Who knew! Beauty on a budget. click to post comment

I have about 15 min to post a quick review on my new found favorite friend, castor oil! I'm always trying to find new remedies and new ways to save more mula (money) on things I have spent mini-fortunes on in the past. So, here's my new found fav product that can be used in a plethora of ways.

ON THE SKIN:

30% Castor oil, 70% Grapeseed or Olive Oil, juice from one lemon. I use this as a wash, especially after doing a scrub w/the baking soda. For a toner I use Vitamin E oil, Green Tea (3 teabags), juice from one lemon. All of this lessens breakouts, even skin tones, and help fade the dark spots.

ON THE EYELASHES:

Ok, so I know you've seen those commercials for Latice (not sure how you spell it)...which will grow your lashes but could leave you BLIND. The side affects from that product could change your eye color, give you dark circles or leave you complete visionless. Well, I researched the benefits of using Castor Oil on your lashes and I've heard nothing but great reviews. I apply it to my brows and lashes before going to bed. Apply like you would your mascara and you'll have luscious lashes in 2-3 weeks!

IN THE HAIR:

This product can grow your hair...on your head, eyelashes, and eyebrows! WOW!!! I've mixed up a concoction (Vitamin E oil, Castor Oil, Tea Tree Oil, and Grapeseed Oil) which I've been using to moisturize my hair. I apply this to my hair every 2 days, especially after I co-wash (new word for conditioner wash) my hair. It leaves my hair feeling very nourished! BUT, if I want to wear my hair down and straight (i.e. dominican blow out), I do not apply this mixture because it can leave it feeling a bit "weighted." But, for my everyday up-do (bun) for the military it is a good way to keep my hair nourished (and growing).

FOR INTERNAL BENEFITS:

DON'T drink it! I remember my grandma making me drink a teaspoon of this NASTY stuff to help my digestive malfunctions but it's not advised to do this nowaday. You CAN; however, make a castor oil PACK and apply it to your abdomen region to help detoxify and stimulate your digestive (flushing) tract.

So, in closing, I will be experimenting with this product as I continue my all natural, health conscious, budget inspired journey to a better ME!

HaPPy living! God bless!

If you think you CAN'T you're right! The Power of a Positive Perspective

Most of what you think you can or CAN'T do comes directly from your PERCEPTION (and perspective). "As a man thinketh in his heart, so IS he!" If you think you are going to make it, you will make it! If you think you'll overcome a thing, you will overcome! If you think you will fail, most likely you will fail! If you think you're unhappy, you'll be destitute. Although life has a tendency of throwing us many blows, it's our duty to hit it back with a ONE-TWO combination. You're in the fight of (and for) your LIFE!

Feeling bad, negative, or hopeless about yourself, your situation, or your surroundings won't HELP but rather hinder you from a breakthrough! Get over yourself! Having a bad attitude or depressed countenance won't change your situation but rather bring MORE of the same (depressed) energy to you. What and how you are is attracted TO YOU. Has it ever seemed like you woke up on the wrong side of the bed and then nothing in the rest of your day seemed to go right? That's the law of attraction (or as the bible states, "as a man thinketh...so IS he). Start MAKING positive things happen for yourself. It's starts with your attitude. Attitude determines altitude. Opportunities are not going to barge in, they merely KNOCK on your door. It's our job to recognize them and CARPE DIEM (seize the moment).

Positive change often times starts with gratitude. Gratitude makes way for abundance. It's easy to realize and recognize all the things you don't have, you desire, or want. But, what about what you already have. Capitalize on your strengthens and minimize your weaknesses. Also, start out by being grateful for WHO you are TODAY. Even your faults serve a purpose. They (faults) are opportunities for perfection (or improvement). Positive change happends one step and adjustment at a time.

Even your present (poor) circumstances have a purpose, so be grateful for them. If "everything works for your good" that means even the bad stuff has a purpose (and will be good in the end). The tests, trials, and troubles are opportunities for TRIUMPHS. Everything has a purpose! Whether it's to teach us what not to do or what to do better next time there's a meaning, reason, and purpose for it ALL.

If your boyfriend has left you, maybe God's making room for a husband! If you're wife's nagging you, maybe it's an opportunity to become a better and more empathetic listener. If you're overwhelmed with debt, maybe the lesson is to be a better steward over what you have. If your unemployed, maybe it's time step out on faith and become an entrepreneur. If you've been laid off or fired from a JOB, maybe it's time to train and educate yourself for that new CAREER existing around the corner .

Whatever the problem, whatever the circumstance you're facing, celebrate! Lift your hands up, throw back your head, and give a big THANK YOU for everything that's existing in your life. As long as you never quit, you'll win. Nothing happens by chance, it's in your life for a reason.

The Overcomers Prayer

Today I need the power to overcome the world, the enemy, and especially my SELF. Help me to walk in your boldness, your authority, and your presence. Help me to be sensitive to the promptings and the direction of your SPIRIT. Quiet the opposing voices and bind the opposing forces that come up against my SUCCESS today. Give me the faith I need and KNOW pleases you. I know without faith it's impossible to please you. I know you are God, I know you are real, and I know that I'm yours Help me to connect or reconnect to you as the source of my strength, my light, and my all I can not do it without you...even when I think I can. Lastly, Lord... Make yourself out to be TRUE when all else is a LIE!

Lust is easy...

Carl Reiner is quoted as saying, "Lust" is easy, "Love" is HARD. "Like" is most important."

Everywhere I look I see single people who want to be married, married people who want to be single, and some people who just want to be left alone! Has society fallen into an inescapable state of psychosis? Most people in the last category have given up hope in relationships because of past hurt, disappointments, feelings of being used and manipulated, or just have gotten lost on the path of love.

I asked myself the question, "Why is LOVE so hard?"
Answer: IT REQUIRES SOMETHING OF YOU!

Love...REAL love:
1. Reveals your imperfections (and faults)
2. Requires you to serve the other person BEFORE yourself
3. (Forces you to) Recognize your own role and responsibilities in the relationship
4. (Opens your eyes to) Realize RELATIONSHIPS was God's plan for creation (all along)
5. Releases you from SELF pride

LUST IS EASY
Lust doesn't require much from you but to recognize the outward appearance of something which will fill your void or PERCEIVED need temporarily! You'll be left wanting something that that act, that person, or that thing can never give. Lust can NEVER fulfill what LOVE was intended to make whole! You'll be left lacking!

There's a place, a void, and a space that can only be fulfilled by
1) God
2) Purpose (your vision and destiny)
3) God's chosen, anointed, and appointed MATE (for you)

LOVE IS HARD
Anything worth keeping is worth working hard for. Think about it, whatever you VALUE you protect! Whatever's important to you, you take care of. Whatever interests you, you pay ATTENTION to. Love isn't easy but it is fruitful. True love is commitment not an occurence. True love surpasses fault finding, superficiality, and growing pains. Think about it, whenever something is growing or expanding, it PRESSES outward which causes (temporary) distress. (Think about about how a baby grows in the womb, you don't get rid of the beautiful baby because the growing is painful).

"LIKE" IS MOST IMPORTANT
That's true! Although no one is likeable 100% of the time, especially those closest to you, it is important to strive to be likeable. (I'm preaching to myself). The bible says, "If you want friends show yourself FRIENDLY." Sometimes it's hard for our best friends, spouses, and children to like us because it's hard for them to press pass the roles we play in order to recognize the jewel they have in their midst. The same goes for us, "Do we recognize the GIFTS (in people) that God has placed in our lives? Relationships are encounters for a brief period of time that test you, grow you, and develop your L O V E walk. This journey is best enjoyed one footstep at a time. Two questions, "Do you have anyone on the journey with you? Do you have anything (any love) left to give?"

Recession Obsession. Product 1 for Beauty on a Budget

A PRODUCT THAT DELIVERS!
Lipstick and Brains Blog is not only a blog devoted to the things of the spirit but also the natural; beautiful things. Today, in my quest for beautifulness (not really a word), I'd like to highlight a "Product that Delivers!" Baking Soda!"

Whether it was my chocolate indulgence over the last few days or last week's emotional/physical/spiritual rollercoaster, my skin was screaming for some help. Acne breakouts and dark spots seemed to have gotten worse overnight although I know it didn't (really). For some strange reason I've been plagued with adult acne and I'm not ashamed to admit it to the masses. We ALL have something plaguing us or that we'd like to improve whether it's physically, spiritually, or emotionally. So, I decided to take a stand. I wanted a product that delivered. Over the years I've probably spent an entire paycheck in search of a product that delivered results. My, oh my, who knew I'd discover this inexpensive little treasure hidden right under my nose, BAKING SODA!

I searched Youtube and found quite a few videos praising the results of this cheap kitchen product. So, I said, "Why not try it, what could I lose?" I tried it and to my surprise it worked after the FIRST USE! No waiting three weeks for ultimate results, although I'm sure I'll reach nirvana by that time and I'll have much clearer, healthier looking skin. But, today it delivered in as little as 20 minutes!

The Process
I mixed a paste in order to make an "emergency mask." A couple of teaspoons mixed with a LITTLE water until you have the consistency of a thick lotion. I prepped my skin by washing it with a normal facial wash, followed by applying a hot clothe to my skin for 30 seconds in order to open my pores, then I slothered the paste all over my face, applying a bit more in those "problem areas." I let it sit between 8-15 minutes or so (I lost track of time, lol). And, I rinsed my face with warm water and then applied VINEGAR to restore and balance the PH in my skin. The paste did sting just a bit, but this is how I knew it was working...can you believe it? Baking soda! I found all of these little tips to "acne free" skin over the internet. The worldwide web is no joke! A plethora of knowledge, but some of it is junk!

The Results
I noticed afterward, not only was my skin smooth and matte, but the breakout minimized tremendously! After about 5 - 10 minutes (when my skin had settled), the acne minimized even greater, as well as minimized pores. Can you believe these results only after ONE use?!? Amazing! I will definitely try this again and incorporate baking soda into my daily skin routine. Baking soda has alot of other benefits and can be used in MANY other ways, just google the uses and you won't be disappointed.

That's it for now, don't forget another cheap solutions from one of my earlier blogs where I discuss how LEMONS also serve as a good dark spot eraser. Until later, stay fabulous, stay beautiful, and most of all stay BLESSED!

Your WANT verses His WILL

INDEPENDENCE
Growing up in my "young adult" years I never felt a need to consult anyone or seek counsel regarding my actions, decisions, or choices. I did whatever I wanted to do, went wherever I wanted to go, and became whatever my career choice was at that moment because I was raised to be "independent." But, does being independent mean not seeking advice? I did as my own little (selfish) heart desired. If wanted to travel someplace, I went. If I wanted to buy something, I bought. If I wanted to date someone, I endeavored. Only to end up suffering from debt, deliquence, and discouragement in relationships, finances, and career choices. Never did I consult or concede to someone else's opinion about my own actions, at least most of the time. I figured, "It's my choice so I'd bare my consequence, good or bad." I did as pleased, I lived as I desired, and sometimes suffered in silence and embarrassment because of poor choices and NO or unGodly counsel. Little did I know how foolish that was; thank God for His grace that transcended my foolish heart, time which heals all wounds, and covenant connections to help me along the way.

CONSULTING
There's a growing trend in the marketplace called "consulting." People are hiring personal coaches to consult them in their life choices, companies hire and pay big bucks to agencies to advise their decisions for a better financial future and to grow their company. Ironically, as I study the bible there are also many examples of "consulting" in the Word of God. Moses sought the counsel of the Lord, and even his father in law (at times) to better help govern the people, David and other kings consulted the prophets, like Nathan before big decisions were made and even afterward in order to determine the likely outcome of their choice. And, even Paul consulted Silas while on their missionary journeys to help with congregations in various regions in those days. So, if big, successful businesses find it necessary to seek counsel for future growth, and the forefathers sought counsel through partnerships, what's happened in the minds of some Christians along the way?

ACCEPTANCE AND YIELDING
Most of us leave God out of our plans, our dreams, our intentions, and our hearts. We leave God out of our relationships, our families, our workplace, and our finances. Is it because we are used to being "independent?" Does independent really mean a lack of dependency on God, the one who CREATED you? Are you not willing to do what He tells you to or accept His "no" if that's His choice and will for your life? Are we all control freaks and like to have our own "board of directors" which consists of three people (me, myself, and I)? Or, is it really a more deeper issue than that? Are we more motivated and driven by our own "internal wants," moreso than God's "eternal will?" These are all questions I posed to myself in the midst of suffering a test and trial recently.

THE CHALLENGE
Not long ago, I was faced an opportunity to have something I really WANTED and felt God had blessed me superabundantly. In the end, when it didn't manifest and I was left empty handed and brokenhearted I was left questioning my faith, my internal beliefs, and even my deepest desires. Was MY want greater than God's WILL? Was my life really about pleasing God no matter what it cost, what it took (away), or was I "happy" with God only when I obtained my "wants?" This kind of questioning is transparent and UNCOMFORTABLE, but I was willing to face it.

SURRENDERING
Oftentimes, Christians want the blessing but not the heart of the blessor. The heart of God transcends your wants and desires. Make no mistake, God will take care of your needs, for His word says, "I've never seen the righteous forsaken, nor my seed begging for bread" but, His will for your life is for you to complete your PURPOSE on earth which may have NOTHING to do with what you desire. "Meeting your purpose" sometimes interupts your plans, your dreams, your hopes, your intentions, and yes...your WANTS! God is sovereign, make no mistake. I'm learning this the hard way. This is definitely not an easy pill to swallow. I'm sure Jesus' "desire" was NOT to have to drink the cup of sin, be brutally beaten, and then suffer the cross. Think about it, would you be like, "Sure God...I'll do it!" In spite of what He would have to face, suffer, and endure, Jesus responded, "Nevertheless, Lord, YOUR WILL be done." He said my "want" may not fulfill your WILL. Wow, I aspire to be more like Jesus but oh, such suffering.

UNPOPULAR CHOICES
You see, serving God is a CHOICE for me which has had some GREAT satisfaction over the years, but also some severe and astounishing suffering. Alot of people, preachers, and pastors are motivated to preach about the glory and SATISFACTION of salvation but stray away from the subject of suffering. It doesn't set the scene for a good shouting session, it's not popular to preach, and it may not fill pews.

I don't serve God out of tradition, habit, nor ritual, or even to get a handout; I do it out of LOVE. And, sometimes love hurts! But, those whom God loves He chastens (hurts) in order that they be MATURED in their faith and in their walk. Think about it, what can an infant teach a master? Would you want someone to minister to you who's never personally experienced anything themselves? Who better can help heal hurt, pain, addiction, brokeness, lack, or suffering than someone who's walked through that valley? People who say "I know how you feel" who has never experienced it are liars, point blank! So, I'm telling God...love me until it hurts so I can be made WHOLE.

Kingdom minded people know that serving God is sometimes uncomfortable, unconventional, unpopular, and inconvenient but they do it anyhow (out of love). The benefits of love far outway the present circumstance of a painful situation.

I was inspired to write this after reading the Book of Ecclesiastes..."everything is futile, vain, and chasing after the wind" is what Solomon said. The wisest, richest, most innovative King that ever lived summed up life saying, "Nothing you do, except for what you do for God matters." (paraphrased).

Deal with it!

Life can deal you a "terrible blow" at times but success is based upon how you "DEAL WITH IT." We make plans and plans seemingly fail. We chose love but sometimes face heartbreak. We have dreams but reality and nightmares smack us in the face, why? Why does life seemingly play games with our emotions, our intellect, and even our very existence? I'll tell you why. Because, we are CONTENDING FOR OUR FAITH!
Without faith it's impossible to please God (Heb11:6). Heck, without hope what's the use of living? Without hope we become oppressed by the systemic, oppressive flow of a "barely making it" type of life instead of living an overcoming, super-excited, more abundant type of life God intended for us. Without hope the people perish(Prov29:18)! Without hope what else is there? Hope beyond hope is what Abraham (Rom4:18) did. He hoped beyond what the situation seemed like on the surface. He hoped even when the promise was perveted by hasty judgment. He hoped even when it was a sacrifice (his son Isaac). Inspire yourself to hope no matter what HELL you may be faced with. Look HELL square in the face and say, "Not today, hope is on the way!"

Hope and faith are the same. They are both invisible, inherent, and intentional. If you don't have hope, you may as well wave your finger at God's ability for possibility. Without hope why go on living? A life without hope (and faith) is a mundane and misguided kind of life. Wandering, worrying, and complaining about the vicissitudes of life or the hand you've been dealt will get you nowhere at the card game of life (except maybe BUSTED). So, put your game face on and play your best hand knowing God has equipped you with the attitude, drive, and determination to WIN! Remember, read the end of the story (Revelation)...In the end, WE WIN!

I'm preaching to myself this morning when I write, "Instead of getting busted, get RICH!" A life filled with hope and faith lead to a life filled with better possibilities and a "rich", abundant type of life."

I felt inspired to write this blog after facing a very tough trial in my personal life. Weirdly, I was inspired to write again after watching a movie titled, "Legion" a story about hope in the midst of a hellish and dark world. After many months of nonblogging, I've decided to reignite my creative energies and change pain into gain by putting fingertips to keypad, ascribing feelings in an invisible world called "the internet." Be blessed!

FIGHT LIKE YOU MEAN IT! (Exercising Your Spiritual Authority) click here for full post

Background scriptures: Matt 11: 12, Luke 9:1 & 2; vs 6, Dan 7:21-22, Eph 6:12, 2 Cor 10:4, 1 Tim 1:18, 1 Tim 6:12

Be watchful of those dominating spirits operating in various areas throughout the world.

Luke 9:1-2; 6 When Jesus had called the Twelve together, he gave them power and authority to drive out all demons and to cure diseases, 2and he sent them out to preach the kingdom of God and to heal the sick" 6So they set out and went from village to village, preaching the gospel and healing people everywhere

A. As Christians we are called to operate in our God given authority by:
Preaching the gospel
Healing the sick
Casting out demons
Curing diseases

Why? Because in (Matt 11:12) the bible says, “The Kingdom suffereth violence but the VIOLENT take it by FORCE!”

B. Before the foundation of the world, God made US in his OWN image.
1. He gave us dominion over the birds of the air, the fish of the sea, creeping things, and every creeping thing that creep! In (Gen 1:28) God told us 4 things: Be fruitful & multiply, Fill the earth and SUBDUE it.
i. The Hebrew word for Subdue is “kavash”= A footstool. The verb kavash literally means to place your foot on the NECK of your enemy.
2. From the FOUNDATION of the world God GAVE us authority to:
a) to overcome b) to conquer 3) and to bring under subjection EVERYTHING that causes us to stumble

3. But something has happened along the way! Instead of FIGHTING the enemy, we’re pacifying him. Instead of DOING church, we’re HAVING church! We’re planning church programs & Satan’s planning his next attack!

4. War...war...war...this is not STRANGE THING, or new CONCEPT or new ideology.
The bible is FULL of wars and battles. From David and the Philistines to Joshua and Amorites the bible teaches us how to war. Today is no different NOW our enemy is INVISIBLE and the battlefield IMMATERIAL (you can’t touch it)!
It’s a spiritual thing! Eph 6:12, “For we do not wrestler against flesh and blood, but with principalities, powers, rulers of the darkness of THIS world, and spiritual wickedness in HIGH places. 2 Cor 10:4 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but are mighty for the tearing down of strongholds.

C. Satan is Making War Against the Saints. Dan 7:21-22, "I was watching; and the same horn was making war against the saints, and prevailing against them, until the Ancient of Days came, and a judgment was made in favor of the saints of the Most High, and the TIME came for the saints to possess the kingdom.

Foe: Satan (1Pet5:8) ”going around AS a roaring lion seeking WHOM he may destroy”
Tactics: Ignorance, Deceit, Bondage, and Slothfulness
Ignorance (Hosea 4:8)
We aren’t studying the Word, so we lack knowledge of who we are, what we can do, and how to defeat the enemy. We fail to realize that we are new creations, who can do ALL things through Him who strengthens us!
Deceit
Just like the enemy deceived Eve by twisting God’s words, he does the same thing to us! He makes us think its ok to do wrong because we have ALOT of time to “get it right.”
a.) A little beer, then a little gin...next thing you know, you’re an alcoholic.
b.) A little weed, then a little “X”...next thing you know, you’re an addict.
c.) A little “sexual experimenting”...next thing you know, you’re turned OUT!
We’ve got to STOP letting the devil deceive us!
Another “lie” is that we have to be PERFECT Christians! Yes, we are called to be Holy because God is holy but perfect, we are not! The only perfect person was Jesus! We have to yield to His Holy Spirit in order to become more like him, and become perfect as it relates to maturity, but not flawless. We all stumble but we get back up and try harder the next time.
a.) Satan plants lies about the Christian walk and makes unbelievers think it’s impossible! But ALL things are possible with God.
b.) Christians need to stop being RE-ligious and start being more REAL (transparent). They become better witnesses for those who need encouragement. If it wasn’t for Jesus, where would we be!
BONDAGE
Another tactic is BONDAGE. (Rom 8:15) “For you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons by which we cry out, "Abba! Father.” The enemy is on assignment to keep people in physical, mental, and spiritual bondage. As long as the saints are oppressed and depressed, they will remain an ineffective because people are watching our WALK and not our WORDS!
How can a debt stricken believer, in financial bondage, ever be a good witness for financial prosperity?
How can an obese, believer with a “spirit of glutony” ever be a good witness for divine health?
Slothfulness
What is “slothfulness?” It’s having a lazy, do nothing” spirit! Always talking about it but not BEING about it. In this state YOU are YOUR OWN worse enemy. Beware of not just the “enemy” but the “In A Me!” The “In A Me” is that slothful attitude that holds you back from being a better, more effective you. When you are slothful you are NO threat to enemy. Satan is after Christians who are making a difference in the lives of the unbeliever.

D. It is time for the church to rise up. Isaiah 59:19, When the enemy (Satan) comes in like a flood, the Spirit of the Lord will LIFT UP a standard (“banner”, Jehovah Nissi=victory banner) against him. It’s time for the church to TAKE A STAND. After you’ve done all else, STAND! Standing is a battle position (Ephesians 6). Fight your way through by STANDING on His Word, STANDING on His promises! Stand and FIGHT!
How are you going to FIGHT?
F Fortify your faith.
I Walk in Integrity
G Grow in grace
H Holy Spirit
T Trust and travail
We can no longer afford to be PASSIVE CHRISTIANS! We’ve got to know when to fight and how to FIGHT! 1Tim 6:12, says to “Fight the good fight of faith...” It’s time to FIGHT knowing the battle’s already been won. Fight for your family, fight for your friends, fight for your future! Paul told Timothy, in 1Tim 1:18, “This charge I commit unto thee, son Timothy....... that YOU might WAR a good warfare.”

E. War a good warfare
Step up to the plate. Don’t step back from the challenge! Step OUT on faith and apply a winning strategy. Every battle has one.
The Winning strategy:
a) a unified force (the church)
b) a unified vision (the leader’s mandate and direction)
c) a unified effort (teamwork)
Order (organization)
Rank (know your place & position)
Structure (stance & maneuver tactics)
***In this war there can be no bargains. In this war, there can be no deals. In this war, you can’t make any truces! You’ve got to put your FOOT on the enemy’s NECK and WAR a good WARFARE! Knowing, with Jesus by your side, you can not fail! Knowing, with the Holy Spirit helping you, you will always WIN! You’ve got to look trouble straight in the eye and proclaim the VICTORY! Victory over your finances! Victory over your debt! Victory over sickness! Victory over disease! Victory over your past! Victory over your present! In this battle, you’ve got to stay on the course. Don’t abandon your post! Going AWOL can’t set you free! You’ve got to keep your watch! ... “Watch and pray!” Don’t ever quit...You can’t afford to quit...too much is depending on you! Quitters never WIN and winners never quit!

Great Message From Pastor Joel Olsteen!

Today’s Verse: “…I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances” (Philippians 4:11, NIV).

Today’s Word:

It’s easy in life to get so focused on our dreams, goals, and what we want that it consumes us. We can get to the point where we’re not going to be happy until it happens. But I’ve found that if we have to have something in order to be happy, our lives are out of balance. When our goals and dreams start to frustrate us, when we lose our peace, and we’re not enjoying life; that’s a sure sign that we’re holding on too tightly. What’s the solution? You’ve got to release it. Freedom comes when you say, “God, I’m turning it all over to You. You know my desires, and You know what’s best for me. I’m choosing to trust You and trust Your timing.”

When we learn to be content whatever the circumstances, it takes away the power of the enemy. It takes away his ability to frustrate us. Not only that, but by our actions we are showing our faith in God. When you choose to trust in His timing, you can live in peace, you can live in joy, and you can rest in Him knowing that He has good things in store for your future.

Prayer for Today: Heavenly Father, today I choose to trust in You. I release frustration over the dreams and desires in my heart, knowing that You know what’s best for me. I choose to trust in Your timing because You are faithful, and I will bless You in all things. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

WHAT'S IN YOUR TANK? (click here for full post/comments)

Capitol One credit card commercial says, "What's in your wallet?" Question for today is, "What's in your tank?"

Our minds and our gas tanks are similar! Sounds crazy? Just consider it witty wisdom. Have you ever heard the term, "THINK TANK?" Used in the political realm, the term "Think Tank" is defined as "policy institute" and can be defined as an organization, institute, corporation, group, or INDIVIDUAL that...engages in advocacy in various areas or systems. "Advocacy" means "the pursuit of influencing outcomes — including public-policy and resource allocation decisions within political, economic, and social systems and institutions — that directly affect people’s current lives. (Cohen, 2001) .....advocacy can be seen as the deliberate process of speaking out on issues of concern in order to exert some influence on behalf of ideas or persons. Based on this definition, Cohen (2001) states that “ideologues of all persuasions advocate” to bring a change in people’s lives."

WOW! But how does this relate to my morning's madness (or journey of revelation) of MY GAS TANK and MY THINK TANK being similar?

Before I start, MY THINK TANK is my MIND! Ok, now let's venture:

  1. Gas tanks and think tanks are both major, integral sub-components housed within larger, major components designed to "go or take us places".
  2. Both the car and your mind have OUTCOMES contingent upon the individuals driving them. They can sit still (be stagnate or unproductive), they can move forward toward a designated destination (purposes & goals), they can move backward (via digression and set backs), they can turn left or right and even go in circles (indecisiveness, instability, or lack of clarity).
  3. Both FUEL something. Gas tanks hold the gas which fuels the car BUT your mind holds the THOUGHTS which fuel your vision! The unfortunate reality is sometimes we allow bad thoughts to sabotage, delay, or discourage our destinies. Examine the BAD FUEL you may be allowing to enter your "think tank". What octane are you using? Bad fuel in the think tank of your MIND is negative thoughts, sub-standard self talk, or a posture of procrastination.

THOUGHTS ARE THINGS! Watch what you think because you will definitely SEE the outcome of what you saw (in your thoughts)! Thoughts hold the power to manifest! Whether it's good or bad, you will definitely see the result of your thinking habits!

More info on think tanks:

  1. Secular think tanks are funded by the government or big businesses with political agendas. Spiritual think tanks are funded by the Kingdom and fueled by the Word of God.
  2. Secular think tanks "speak out" as advocates for various causes and institutions. Kingdom believers "speak out" the truth of the Word of God regarding who we are and what we were brought to this earth to complete.
  3. Secular think tanks often influence POLICY. We, as the children of God and joint heirs of Jesus, are called to act as ambassadors of the Kingdom and influence the systems of this world, be it education, entertainment, finance, or government. We have a mandate to preach, teach, baptize and make disciples who make Kingdom change happen in this entire world. We do this not in and for ourselves but for the Kingdom and to the glory of our God!

The bottom line, control what you think about. Fruitfulness will manifest when you line up your thoughts, your words, and your actions with the power that lies within your "TRUE" self. Your "true self" can only be found in Jesus Christ and the Word of God.

Knowledge Is Power but Wisdom Is Key (click here to post)

Please read! Remember LEADERS are READERS!
It's said somewhere "When I knew better I did better." Wow, how true! As I approach my birthday, I've been more retrospective than ever! I walked out of my house this a.m. and was grateful to God for bringing me out of Egypt! Egypt was a place of oppression, depression, stress, anxiety, dispair, and low-living. Two weeks ago I received this "coming out" revelation as I visited my old neighborhood in N.W. Wash. D.C. afterwhich, I couldn't help but praise God for the blessing of breakthrough!
People look at me and have all types of assumptions but no idea where I've been or what I've walked through. This morning I could've shouted the block down when I walked out of my door, knowing the ghettos and the burroughs in which I lived because I was trying to make a life for my daughter and I. I looked over at my car and remembered the days when I drove a 15yr OLD Toyota Celica which ran out of oil and broke down on the side of Baltimore/Washington Pkwy as I struggled to get to that $10 per hour paying job. Finally, everytime I spend quality time with my beautiful daughter, I praise God for how far our relationship has come over the past 19 years.

God's grace and mercy has been awesome as He has continued to "bring me out" through years! Out of ignorance, out of rebellion, and out of pride. However, this walk is not about the destination but about the journey in which I've learned things every step of the way. Here are the lessons I've learned:

"You don't know what you don't know." The Ignorance of (not) Knowing
Sometimes people get offended if you call them "ignorant". There's a difference between ignorance and stupidity. "Ignorance" is not having knowledge of. I recently took my midterm exam in International Relations and realized that I didn't know what I didn't know. Yes, I studied (somewhat) but felt a bit unprepared for some of the questions.
Lesson: Prepare myself to the best of my abilities, expect some challenges but trust God to "fill in the blanks" (of life).

"Yep, I know but I don't care!" The Rejection of Knowledge
I've found that I've caused the most damage or experienced the most heartache when I didn't heed the advice from the Word or from those wise individuals around me.
Lesson: Seek out knowledge and wise counsel. Ensure I surround myself with the "right people". For real, if I'm the smartest one in my group then I must be in the wrong group!

"Wow, I never knew!" The Realization of Knowledge
Chaplain Maurice Buford use to say "You're either green and growing or you're dead". What does that actually mean? Think of a plant, as it continues to RECEIVE its daily daily nutrients, it continues to grow. However, as soon as it stops RECEIVING it starts dying! What a wonderful revelation!
Lesson: Everyday I task myself to learn at least 3 new things, whether it's a new word in my vocabulary, a new way of doing something, or a new paradigm (way of thinking about something). That way I will always stay fresh, innovative, and active.

"I knew......., so I........!" (Wisdom) The Application of Knowledge
Knowing I should save money does me NO good unless I ACTUALLY put aside money every payday. "Knowing" I should be careful of the language I use (because it's a reflection of who and what I represent) does me NO good unless, when I'm tested, I choose words more suitable to calm myself and the situation.
Lesson: Do what I can, when I can, where I can, how I can, and in the right way. Don't wait or procrastinate the application of His word or teachings given by worthwhile leaders. Carpe Diem....do what is right, right away!

In closing, I am grateful for another year of manifestation, impact, and change! These last ____ years has been an interesting ride, I can't wait to see how the other ______ years will be!

Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; wisdom and instruction fools despise.

How to be a happy single

Watch Video and then read the next post. Feel free to post your comments! Happy blogging!

What to do while you're single? (click to post comments)

CELEBRATE SELF!!!!
Some time ago a person asked me, "Which I'd liked best, being married or being single?" Stunned by the question and a bit caught off guard, I answered, "I'd much rather be married than single because I love being in a relationship."

Well, needless to say, 2 weeks later I'm still pondering the curious dialogue between myself and someone who's been married nearly 20 years. The person mentioned how married people make comments of how they contemplate being single and of how single people are dying to be married. Convinced society may be somewhat pyschitzophrenic in their desires, I wondered what do people really want and what should we be doing until we actually get it? The answer bubbled up, "CELEBRATE YOUR S.E.L.F!" (no matter what the situation).

I've realized in my infantile amount of knowledge and wisdom that, for myself, I've not always been sure of what I "truly wanted" because I was still discovering (or in search of) my true SELF. When a person doesn't know WHO they truly are, it's almost impossible for them to know what they TRULY want. Your SELF can only be defined by who you are in God/Jesus.

My "SELF" has been created from the values, morals, beliefs and code (the Word) which were placed within me before I was born. These things created my persona which I carry around with me each day. Over time and through situations, I admit I've probably compromised on some of these and have resulted in me developing a scued since of SELF. Once I brought my SELF back into alignment with the code, only then was I able to regain my sense of SELF and redefine the other things (morals, values, etc). After the realignment happened I was then able to determine my true DESIRES.

Self Principles:
1) Never lose a sense of SELF. Don't let someone rob or take hostage of my identity.
2) Never compromise my values, morals, beliefs, or code for another person.
3) Share my SELF with those around me (friends, family, co-workers, etc.). Give my "SELF" to others daily.
4) Always be in a relationship with my SELF (whether single or married).
5) Be happy with, forgive, and fortify my "SELF".

I also discovered something else while meditating on this idea of a single, married, or relational "State of SELF." It was the question of, "What should I be doing while I'm single?" Being transported to this new state of singleness for almost 2 years now has brought me in contact with quite a few other beautiful, talented, wonderful, awesome SINGLE SELFs which may benefit from my journey. Keys that I think would help us in our SINGLE STATE OF BEING are:

Seek spiritual well being.
Know who you are by defining your SELF in God. You are His creation and exist because of Him. (It is in Him that we live, we move, and have our being).
Experience abundant living now.
Don't wait until you have a mate to celebrate your SELF and your life. You are accountable for each day of your life. Live it to the fullest within the healthy boundaries God has created for our benefit and protection (not our bondage). You can be saved and have fun too. Wisdom is the key.
Live without limits.
Don't say to yourself you can't do this or that until you have that other person. If you want to buy a house now (while you're single) do it. Take a trip to the place you've always wanted to visit, do it-NOW! Grab some girlfriends or guy friends and go! Enjoy life and not wait for fate or that mate. If you want to start that business, do it!
Forgive your SELF and others.
Tell your SELF you're sorry for not getting to know who you really are (and what you really want). Tell your SELF you're sorry for being so hard on your SELF when you didn't reach your goals or allow yourself to try again. This applies to everything, whether it be love, a goal, a hope, or a dream. You can never go forward successfully holding on to past hurts, pains, and perceived failures. I always say, "I haven't failed unless I quit." I refuse to fail or lose, I'm a Christian and I always win! (All things work out for my good...)

In closing, once you take the journey you'll thank your SELF for embracing and getting to know your SELF because you'll be ready for that mate if he/she finds you. You'll also have an abundance to bring to the relationship. In contrast, if your destiny is to be single forever, don't worry! God will give you grace to do it and you'll still be in a loving, fulfilling relationship, even if it is only with YOUR "SELF." So be happy! You are the one ultimately responsible for the quality of your state of SELF.

ARE YOU SELF SABOTAGING THE VERY THING YOU WANT? (click here)

Applied to any area of your life whether it be employment, relationships, or anything...this article is very liberating. Face your fears head on and take control of your life, your love, and your purpose.

Excerpts:
Psychologists may call it a counterphobic mechanism, a tendency to slide toward, not away from, something you fear. Those of us who use plain English might call it self-sabotage -- and it can ruin your life. These days, more than ever, facing and embracing your worst-case scenarios, seeing them as problems to be solved rather than torments to suffer helplessly, can save you no end of self-sabotage.

FACE your fear consciously not subconsciously (uncontrolled/self sabotaged-like)?
It may not be fun to contemplate everything that could go wrong in your life, especially in a time of massive economic upheaval and uncertainty. But by going straight into the fear, you can save yourself a crazy go-round with unconscious self-sabotage. You deserve better than that. You'll thank me. I swear.

Like so many people right now, Whitney was stuck contemplating the Machine of unemployment. But she'd shoved this intense fear out of her conscious awareness, so her subconscious mind had built a counterphobic mechanism to kill the job and end the agony.

Face and embrace your fear.
If you're repeatedly making dreadful mistakes and finding yourself in embarrassing snafus in an important area of life, push yourself to contemplate your worst-case scenario. I suggest doing this in the company of friends, family members, therapists, coaches, or all of the above.
While you're gaping and reeling like a stunned mullet, your more objective advisers can help you do some contingency planning.

Example: Escaping 'perfect wife'
Once Olga copped to her real fears, facing and embracing her worst-case scenario was even more liberating. She had felt stifled in her relationship, she realized. Her definition of "perfect wife" had meant someone who relinquished all personal interests except her husband.

Although Olga loved Jack, that image of wifehood (hers, not his) was so noxious that subconsciously she knew she couldn't sustain it. Some part of her worried that it would eventually implode. So she'd begun doing things to end the marriage -- and thus her terrible anticipation of its end.
As we discussed what Olga might do if she were single, she began redefining herself as an individual, not an appendage. With Jack's help, she bagged her old stereotype of married life and realized she was free to plot her own course. Embracing her worst-case scenario took the kill me now sign off her relationship, and her marriage-torpedoing behaviors stopped.

Since you, like Whitney and Olga, are probably of sound mind, any chronic blundering on your part is likely a counterphobic mechanism: a brave, unconscious, totally knob-brained attempt to end the torture of anticipating further torture. These days, more than ever, facing and embracing your worst-case scenarios, seeing them as problems to be solved rather than torments to suffer helplessly, can save you no end of self-sabotage.

Ironically, of course, this, too, is a counterphobic mechanism. The difference is that it's conscious, reasoned, and wise, rather than unconscious, irrational, and nuts. It may not be fun to contemplate everything that could go wrong in your life, especially in a time of massive economic upheaval and uncertainty. But by going straight into the fear, you can save yourself a crazy go-round with unconscious self-sabotage. You deserve better than that. You'll thank me. I swear.
